Nook HD is a product by Barnes and Noble. It is a tablet /media player / E-Book reader by Barnes and Noble which was released in November 2012 and is a successor to the Nook Tablet. The Nook HD is a 7 inch tablet and is a good competitive option in this category. Nook HD offers a competitive price range with $ 199 for the 8 GB version and $ 229 for the 16 GB version. The Nook HD gives a good competition to its main competitors in this category of 7 inch Tablets.

Design and Look of the Nook HD

The Nook HD is available in two colors Snow (White) and Smoke (Black – Grey). It is slightly thicker than its competition but it weighs lesser than many of its competing tablets. It is designed to be ideal for e-book reading with wide plastic bezels on each side making it easier to hold without touching the screen, sloped edges and soft touch rubber back. There are camouflaged volume button, power button on the left and 3.5 mm headphone jack on the top.

Screen, Speakers and No Camera

The display on the Nook HD is 7 inch LED Backlit screen with multitouch. The screen resolution is 1440×900 and the pixel density is 243 ppi which is quite impressive and it allows you to watch movies and videos with clarity. There are two rear facing speakers in the Nook HD. One of the negative points about the Nook HD is that there is no Camera in the Nook HD unlike many of its competition that has cameras. The people wanting tablet with camera in them will not prefer the Nook HD.

Operating System, Software and Memory

The operating system on the Nook HD is 4.0.3 IceCream Sandwich version of Android which is a very popular and new version of Android OS. The Processor is Dual Core OMAP 4470 @ 1.3 GHz. It comes in two options of 8GB and 16GB memory with expandable memory option upto 32 GB via micro SD Slot. It has 1GB RAM memory. It has many new features like tabbed browsing, one can open multiple accounts on Nook HD and easy access to recently opened files, and books etc. on the home screen and most apps are available on the Nook HD.

E-Book Reader and other Features

The E-Book reader on the Nook HD is quite impressive and users can view their E-Books in various formats and it also has many features that enhance the reading experience. The connectivity is wireless via Wi-Fi and the graphic specification are POWERVR SGX544. With the Nook HD one can access Nook Today to find new book and the Nook Video store for movies, TV shows and videos. The Nook HD has a reasonable good battery life.
The Nook HD is a good competitor in its segment and especially good for people interested in buying a tablet for e-book reading and media player purposes.
